18 Inch Dobsonian, $1800! Custom Made Mirror, APERTURE IS KING!!

Howdy!

Yes Aperture is king, and although you know that certain factors mitigate that, there is still something wonderful about a big scope. On offer is an 18 inch dobsonian scope, (F4.7 so fairly fast) with a custom made mirror by Livanos Specialist Optics (based in Hamilton, NSW) that is in excellent condition and not needing any work or cleaning. The mirror has been certified as 1/4 wave accuracy and is a thinner soda limeglass (29mm) which allows for quicker cooling, not so heavy and long life. Also the scope has 2 fans to aide in cooling, one just above the primary and one underneath which is a great idea for summer. Original certificate and assembly instructions will be given with the scope. This scope is a great 'blank canvas' scope, one in which you can get fairly cheaply and therefore make your own modifications. For example you may want to add a feathertouch focuser, or a Telrad, Argo Navis....a different mount etc.

The scope is a solid tube, but don't freak out, it breaks down very easily and is very light weight. In fact I can get this scope into my Hyundai i30 without any problems and I can easily carry, setup and be ready in about 10minutes. The heaviest part weighs approximately 15kg (which is the primary mirror cell). The scope comes with an Orion right angle finder scope (quite good really) and a custom made trolley if you need it. There is a sturdy metal dobsonian mount also that suits it and also packs up and sets up very easily with just six or so nuts that you simply tighten by hand. All in all, a wonderfully portable large dobsonian, that when you put it together looks full on but pulls apart so easily! The tubes are of sturdy metal but yet light weight so fear not! Your back will be okay (as I have a weak back and I have no issues).

In summary a spectacular scope for globular clusters, deepsky (especially where aperture is king!) and of course planetary viewing. Price includes everything you need to get viewing so nothing more needed but of course you may have your own touches to add! I work from home so you can pickup at any time!

Okay the price, the bit you were wanting I guess. I am looking for $1800, which is very cheap for this size scope and its deep-sky ability. However send me communications so we can discuss this. I am a very reasonable person but fair and have a pretty decent idea of value. If you want to organize a courier I can work in with you. Allow a few hundred on shipping this naturally but considering Skywatcher and Chinese made dobs sell for about $5 -7 k for an 18" you are not doing too badly with this all Australian made number! Yes she is not 'pristine' or commercially made, but an experienced viewer will appreciate what it is and how to get the best out of it.

Regards to all!
