Prominences 20150502

Prominences are visible along the edge of the Sun in this narrowband hydrogen-alpha filtered image.

This image was shot with a triplet apochromatic refractor with an aperture of 130mm through a 0.2 angstrom narrowband hydrogen-alpha solar filter.

My good friend Jim Sweeney was kind enough to let me hook my camera up to his scope and shoot for a while before the clouds came in.

The seeing was just average when I captured the Live View video for this image.

The Sun was pretty quiet that day with only one small sunspot group visible.
