DSS beta edition

I stacked some ARW raw files from my sony nex5 of m42 using the beta version of DSS that supports ARW raw files and saved the resulting file . This looked like an overexposed core of m42 against a black background of stars and had no fine detail. reversing the curves tool in PS gave me a passable image.I tried playing with the parameters in DSS but got the same result. The individual ARW files (and associated JPEG files) show nice detal and colour by themselves , so I was puzzled. Then when i tried loading the DSS autosave files back into DSS they appeared detailed and with some slight colour .After saving these again as named tiffs and looking at them in PS they looked good and behaved as would be expected with PS levels and curves. What am i doing wrong?

ps also noticed that the dark files are listed as only about 1/10 th the exposure time as the lights though the info in the raw files says otherwise? I even re entered the data to make sure i had not madean error.
