Frustrating!

Went to Milsons Pt this morning before work, to get some harbour bridge/opera house/city night and dawn shots.. got there about 5am.

Snapping away, thinking these look pretty good.

Got to about 6:15am, 50 photos later, and then it hits me.. I've been snapping away at ISO 1600 - I forgot to set it back after doing the backyard DSO's the other night

Soooo frustrating!

Going through them this morning in Raw Shooter Essentials and they're very grainy of course I might be able to salvage a couple but I expect most of them will be wasted

ah well, all a learning process I suppose.. need a mental checklist before I press the shutter each time..

ISO, focus, aperture, shutter, white balance, click!

I've done a similar thing before. Forgetting to re-set exposure correction is also a major blunder, images a couple of stops underexposed are difficult to get any decent results with...

Sorry Mike but

I have done that several times with the pentax, and with a large flash attached . Thats why I love having a dedicated Astro Camera, no need to worry that much.

I made the same stupid mistake at my brothers wedding. All my shots were ISO400. I was not impressed.

Ive guided a lovely set of 10 minute deep sky shot only to find the quality set to Jpeg not RAW later on, stopping me from effectively dark subtracting and processing the image properly, oh well.

I had to reset my Canon to 100 ISO recently, after seeing many of my shots were grainy, at ISO 400.
So you are in good company iceman !

You can still salvage most if not all images. Just use a noise reduction program. I used it often when i took shots with a noisy camera a few months back.
Try Noiseware Pro, it has different settings (Portrait, Night, Landscape etc) for you to try and compare the difference

Thanks, i'll try noiseware on the fullsize pics.

They still came out ok at websize, but the test will be when I try and print them.
