Guess it depends on how much travelling you want to do . A wagon set up with any extras is fine really just comes down to camping . We have a tent that just pops up its self , just throw it on the ground and pop up it goes.
We do have a large SUV for this reason and I've added large AUX battery , extra power sockets in the back along with solar panel input that can run a fridge . Just a matter of throwing everything in the back and heading off .

I used to have a very nice hard side camper, sort of like an Avan but with more room, including the all important indoor toilet and kitchen. All the comforts of home but the setup time was always a drawback. I would watch Allan_L pull up in his motor home, wind out the awning and get out his camp chair, and was very envious. Then I saw Matt's very swish motor home out at Coolah, I was ready to sell the house for one of those. It comes down to what do you need to be comfortable and with enough room for your gear. A motor home with hydraulic stabilizers, and a slide back roof to expose the pier mount inside, yeah I would love that; but then again my doctor won't allow it now.

All Matt's needs is a roll off roof and it's perfect.

Alex you could have one of these...

Or this, even a 20”...
http://www.telescopegeek.com/heavyduty.htm

Perkin-Elmer used to sell a trailer-mounted 30” Cassegrain, altaz... circa $100k in 1980 dollars. I used to dream of gutting a bus, fit that out as a large motorhome and hitch one of those on the back.
