John , the cone error is easily checked and adjusted out. Your HEQ5 would have come with a Synscan instruction manual. The cone error
adjustment is fully explained in index 1 of the manual; all you need is a couple of basic tools and a reticle eyepiece.
It can be done anywhere, and during the day is fine.
