Comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) 27-07-2013

Here you go Kevin!

Comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) on Sunday morning.

What a mongrel of thing to process!!

Had all sorts of problems getting DSS to stack on comet with no star trailing.

Pretty nifty field amongst the galaxies of Fornax, very close NGC 1316 Tuesday morning.

The antitail is quite evident in the cropped image, igrnore the blue spike in the wide field, processing artefact.
Don't think it's mag 9.7 more like 10.7

Cheers,

Justin.

Well done Justin. Yes it is a mongrel to process. Especially with point stars. DSS doesn't do it properly so manual intervention is needed. I only process for pinpoint stars if something interesting is in the field (like now) otherwise I let it trail. Magnitude is around 11.

I missed it last night due to cloud covering my window of opportunity. May miss it again tonight as the fog has rolled in.

Thanks Kevin!

Yep thought it was fainter than estimated in Guide.

Cheers,

Justin.
