With my disability, I can no longer manage such a big scope and want to see it go to a good home. Standard 12” GSO Dob, with significant mod’s making it much more user-friendly, including:
- Chest handle at tube balance point for when tube has to be carried (see photo 1).
- Bob’s Knobs on primary mirror, for easier collimation.
- 10,000-step encoders fitted for Digital Setting Circles, (see photo 2). Cost new $200. Nexus DSC controller/display to suit can be purchased from Astro Devices.
- In-line switch for OTA fan, with indicator light. (You will waste a lot of batteries without this – it is not easy to insert the plug into the socket in the dark). (see photo 5).
- “Music stand” height-adjustable shelf. This enables the DSC display and an Ipad/tablet to sit side-by-side, at a convenient, adjustable viewing position. (see photos 3 & 4).
- Solar filter. Not full aperture (obviously). Film-type filter over 2” aperture in OTA tube cover. Works fine. (See photo 6)
Optics fine. Main mirror could use a clean (a little dusty, but no scratches or chips). Included are 2”/1.25” adaptor and shoe for standard GSO/Skywatcher finder. No eyepieces – assume that if you want such a scope you probably already have some. But could package up a couple for minimal extra cost, if needed. The photos attached show only the non-standard enhancements. The OTA and base are as shown on the Andrews’ or Bintel websites.
