First timer.......Great Forum ! - Best place to buy Scope in Oz ?

Hi,

Great site by the way. Getting back into the hobby after a 25 year lul since a youngster. Located in Melbourne Western Suburbs and tossing up b/n Celestron 127 Mak-cas for ease of use and finder function Vs either 10 or 12 inch Dobsonian. Interested in Deep Space objects etc. Not worried about photography for the time being.

Wanting to know where is the best place in Australia including online for purchasing a scope ? Do I go Australian Geo for ease of warranty return, Ozscopes or overseas.

Thanks.

No to oz geo. Repeat that several times until you sound convincing.

Someone more local will be along in a minute to help.

Yep, listen to Jenchris,

Best places for scopes in my opinion are Bintel who are in Melbourne and Sydney and Andrews Communications who deliver from Sydney.

For local personal service, advice and excellent warranty support as well as a great showroom, Bintel can't really be beaten for all round excellence.

My 2c

Cheers

Chris

Get the first scope from Bintel. The Bourke Rd boys know what they sell. They'll set it up and make sure it works.
Get the second and susequent scopes from IIS classifiseds

I know it has been said but stay away from Australian Geographic stores. I think everytime I walk in one I see a scope setup incorrectly. They have almost zero knowledge while Bintel are the exact opposite. Don who runs the Sydney store is the president of the ASNSW and their employees are generally very knowledgable.
Have also dealt with Andrews and Sirius optics in Qld but best bet for you is a visit to Bintel in Camberwell.

Thanks barx. Will do. Least I can have a look at them before buying. I noticed they have their own rebranded scopes and good features accross all ranges etc. Prices seem pretty good.
