Telstra WIFI Device dBM Transmit Power

Good morning to all.

Just out of curiosity I have complained here about my poor signal using a Telstra Portable lite WiFi Device.

I have got into the settings of this device and have found that the Signal Strength of my WiFi Device is between 65 and 75 dBM.

After a little research it was suggested that anything closer to 0 dBM's is best, and anything between 30-50 dBm's is acceptable.

Correct me if i am wrong please, but i suspect that the level of my unit is just a little high and this is why i am experiencing poor signal, would this be correct.

Thanks Leon

sounds typical. there should be no reason at that signal level you cant get the best from the tower.
if speeds are slow, then that is a product of the tower.
does a speedtest on your phone come in about the same as a speedtest off your device.?
some towers aren't lucky enough to be fed by a fibre. we have a 3g site here that is on a microwave link back towards the coast. even though you get full bars, the performance is shocking.
id expect to see anywhere around 5mbps on a 3g connection. can sometimes be higher but on average that's what I see.
standing at the exchange in town yields -50dbm ish.
just to clarify the measurement, -125dbm is bad
-50dbm is excellent

Hi Steve, my phone is reading about 17-25dBm, which is much less than the WiFi device.
Ahh well, I can still chat to you guys, even if it is at snails pace, however some times of the day are better than others.

yes, that may be the output of the phone.
look for RSSI in the service mode.
