I have recently got my Lunt 100mm with the DSII module.
Amazing views with the the Lunt100mm in single stack configuration. I can see the granulation, spicules and flares in fine detail.
When I have installed the Double stack module I get multiple halos that radiate from the 09:00 position and the detail is not present?
I have equalised the pressure for both pressure tuners and alter the positioning. I see more contrast and detail in single stack which I am kinda confused?
Wondering if anymore can suggest anythign I am doing wrong or I can configure?
Mel,
I see you also have the SM60II DS...
You've probably already used the radial positioning and variable tilt to reduce ghosting.....
In the Lunt DS I believe there's limited opportunity to have any "tilt" adjustment. A CP filter in the optical path may reduce them....
I don't have a Lunt to experiment with, so can't add much more.
There are many guys over on the SolarChat group who have Lunt experience which may be more useful. https://solarchatforum.com/
Yah, you are right in that I can tilt away the halos in the SM60 DSII. I get the feeling something may be off with the DSII module.
I see the red glow in single but in the double its like 4 halos in a expanding linear row. Really weird.
Thanks for replying Ken, will defintely head to solarchat.
Regards,

I am not a handy person by any means but I have eliminated the halos and reduce the glow somewhat with the double stack module.
The second pt module i mounted pretty much in the opposite direction of the first pt unit and tuned. Double stack definitely shows more detail on the disk but comparing single vs double - I prefer the single view with the 100mm.
Sounds like a reasonable compromise.....
The 50% (approx) light loss when DS takes a bit of getting use to.
With practise I find the contrast enhancement worth the effort.
Hi Mel, I use a circular polarizer between the two etalons, I had a thread on CN and solarchat explaining how it was done. The image is darker but the glow is almost completely eliminated, and the quality of the image is as good as my DS Lunt 60.

Hi Mel. I prefer the single stack for proms and spicules, which can be quite spectacular at high power. The DS is great when there are active regions and filaments, and especially filaproms, which add that 3D feel to the DS view.
Using the polarizer, the image is darker, but I found that by rotating the lens hood by 45 to 90 deg at a time you can find a position where the image is brighter.
I must admit , I was blown away by the single stack view even with the disc view of features. It really felt like a hd view of the sun. Definetely worth the wait!
Got thr DS module at the same time but felt the view was not a big a constrast as I thought. Still a good view but the single stack really blew me away.
Thanks again for pointing me to the solarchat thread.
Its really important that you remove and refit the black part of the pressure tuners altogether when they arrive. The Lunt factory is at 2500ft above sea level, and you probably are not, so their starting pressure is likely to be too weak.
The DS view absolutely trashes the SS view, it's just a matter of getting the balance right. Reduce the pressure of the DS, tune the SS to perfection, then finesse the DS.
