Lightbulb Total Cloud Coverage (%)

The Total Cloud Coverage (%) now includes the High Cloud Coverage (%) for the ACCESS-C models (i.e. ACCESS-VT, ACCESS-SY, ACCESS-BN, ACCESS-DN, ACCESS-PH and ACCESS-AD).
A fix was implemented to set the total cloud amount to the high cloud amount if the high cloud amount was greater than the total cloud amount for any grid point.
The Forecast Maps, Meteograms and Dark Sky sections were updated accordingly.

Cloudcams on myCFN [regions]

Here's the network of 85 cameras currently active on myCFN.

You can choose your preferred cameras in your control panel and add them to your list the same way you select your myCFN meteogram locations.
Each meteogram location will pick up nearby cameras automatically but you can choose which one you want to display on the maps.

Lightbulb Cloudcams on myCFN [overlays]

All camera pages display the camera names and a list of nearby cameras at the top. Clicking on any name will link to the next camera in the list.

No overlay
Only cardinal points are plotted on top of the current camera FOV.

Display Overlay
Other cameras within a given radius in Km are plotted directly on top of the camera FOV with corresponding distances in Km. Click on the camera icon to navigate to the next camera in that general direction.

Astronomy Mode
Your favourites meteogram locations (myCFN locations) are plotted directly under the cameras FOV in the approximate direction along with a distance in Km. Click on the meteogram icon to navigate to the location meteogram. Only your selected cameras are plotted on top of the current camera FOV when in Astronomy Mode. Only your selected cameras are plotted on the forecast maps, satellite and radar sections when Astronomy Mode is selected.

Storm Mode
Nearby Radars are plotted directly above the cameras FOV in the approximate direction along with a distance in Km for storm chasing. Click on the radar icon to navigate to the radar map. All BoM and airfield cameras in the network are plotted on top of the current camera FOV within a given radius in Km. All available cameras in the network are also plotted on the forecast maps, satellite and radar sections when Storm Mode is selected.

Any questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Lightbulb Cloudcam on myCFN [setup]

You can browse cloudcams freely but if you want to save your preferences you can set up a list up to 20 cameras in your control panel. These cameras will be plotted on all your maps when you are in Astronomy Mode.

As an example if you are interested in the weather around Wiruna, Rylstone airport and Bathurst airport would be a good match.

Lightbulb Synoptic Charts

We've just added a new product to display Synoptic Charts.
Members and Supporters can respectively view the past 7 days and 14 days.

The maps will animate the same way as the satellite maps. So you can play/stop and scrub.

You can also display a flat series layout like all the other sections.
See PDF here.

These charts are currently available from your forecast map and satellite sections.

Any questions or issues please let us know.
Thanks again for your continued support.

Lightbulb Lunar Eclipse January 2018 - 18UTC

There is now a LUNAR ECLIPSE button on CFN in the map side menu available to anyone. Select your region then click on the button. This will take you to a page displaying a small list of maps centered on the approximate time of the beginning of the event. The maps will switch to ACCESS-C the next update when the date enters the 36h range provided the model is available for your region. They will then automatically follow the current time and date until the end of the event.

The direct link is: http://www.cloudfreenight.com/event.lunar_eclipse.

Good luck and email us any photos you manage to take.

ACCESS-C maps are all available now.

Here's a list of the latest run of high resolution forecasts (where available) for tonight's eclipse.

VIC
NSW
SEQLD
NQLD
TAS
SA
SWWA
NWWA
CAUS
NZ
NT

Any issues with the links let us know.

Fascinating and complex forecast for Vic for tonight.. and many other areas of the country I think! Very interesting to watch the weather and the eclipse!

If you're not looking at the ACCESS City models via CFN you're not looking at the best forecast tools..

I seems there might be a stable clear patch north of Melbourne around Heathcote/Mt Burnett.

Lightbulb Lunar Eclipse Poll

We experienced our biggest traffic spike yesterday showing some interest in the event forecast. This one was put together rather quickly given the short notice and a late decision for a trial run. We're working on automating the system to provide high resolution forecasts to the public (no login required) during future selected events but we need your input. It would be greatly appreciated if you can find the time to fill in the poll in this thread and give us some feedback (or email robert) so you can assist us in including requested features into the process. Thanks again for your support.

Exclamation Map and Satellite Navigation

Just a quick recap on the most efficient way to navigate the forecast maps and satellite images.

Maps:
The buttons 1d, 6h, 3h and 1h either sides of the NOW button will increment or decrement the time on the map viewport by the time value of the button.

If you need to view a large range of maps don't click repeatidely the 1h button. Click on 3h, 6h or 1d to move forward or just play the animation and hold the mouse down (or your finger) on the map. This will pause the animation. Dragging your mouse or finger left and right will change the map time much faster without running the risk of being flagged as an automated bot or spider.

Satellite:
The buttons 2h, 4h, and 6h will not change the time on the satellite viewport so there is no point clicking them repeatidely. They only set the time range for the animation playback. Again, once the animation is playing you can drag the image to pause, fast forward or rewind.

Hope this clears any confusion.
Thank you.

PS: Another way to visualise all maps within a given time range is to click the "flat layout" icon top right under the moon/star icon. That will display all the maps you want to view in one screen that you can pan or zoom.

Lightbulb Forecast Map Animation Ranges

By default the forecast map animation ranges are as follow:

+1h to +36h - ACCESS-C
+36h to +120h - ACCESS-R/G
+120h to +240h - ACCESS-G

There is now an icon at supporter level to play the whole 10 days range.
This will toggle "All Animation" or "Range Animation". GFS works the same way.

So if you want to quickly check the maps for the next 10 days regardless of the model just select "All Animation", Play then scrub the map viewport back and forth across the whole range.

There was an issue with the animation range icon not displaying properly. This now has been fixed. Please let us know if any problems.
