EQ6-R Motor Sound

Hi all

I finally got everything ready on my new telescope and mount.
I bought a LIFEPO4 battery pack and had to create a link between the spade bits and the cigarette plug. All good.

So when I fired up the unit for the first time and used the SynScan remote to move the mount, it initially makes "whooshing" noise. At the end of the movement, the same noise comes back. Underneath there's a rough grinding sound that's more apparent on the Declination motor.

See below for a direct link to the audio file.

RA movement:

Dec movement (this one has a weird almost grinding sound?):

For anyone with this mount, is this normal?

Cheers
Adam

Adam, I had a new EQ6-R last year and although that sounds pretty close to mine, there certainly is a weird screech to it in the movement. I can't comment on what it might be as I have no idea about the internal working of a mount. Someone with more insight might be able to comment on what it is.

Generally a grinding sound indicates the worm gear backlash has been set incorrectly but its usually much louder. Engage the clutches and see if there is much play when you move the scope side to side by hand.

Check your EQ6-R is receiving the correct voltage
Spec says DC 11 to 16 volts 4amp capacity

Hi all

I played the sound to the company I bought it from, who think it sounds a bit odd.
I played it to another company and they think it sounds fine

Anyway, I've not tested the voltage yet, I will buy a voltmeter to test soon, but I've used it twice now and it slews fine with my Lithium battery pack.
