comet lovejoy

finally managed to get an image of lovejoy didnt have much time to get it was on my way to work and just so happened to catch a break in the clouds lucky i had the camera and tripod in the car. image taken with nikon d90 30 sec exposure f4 iso 640 18-55mm kit lense at 18mm. wish i had a little more time to get a better image

It seems like so many of us are being jinxed with the cloud cover. If you get the chance to shoot it again, bump your ISO up to 1600, you should get a much clearer pic, hopefully. I use a D90 too, good on you for trying to squeeze in a shot before work

But as Gerry said, needs that ISO ramped up.

i only had 5 minutes just enough to set the tripod up and snap the photo is it still bright enough?

It is bright enough(through long exp), I'm finding that about 40-50mins prior to first light is when you can no longer see it (the sky becomes too blue in your photo).

From my own experiences around 2am-3.15am have been the best times.

You can see the tail, but with that light pollution and the cloud about, having the ISO setting a wee bit too low has made it difficult to photograph (especially at the length the exp' was). If you do the same next time, bump your ISO up to 1600 before you leave to goto work and then try a snap

ill have a go tomorrow morning on my way to work bit clouded out this morning ill try iso 1600 the d90 is pretty good for noise its taken 10 min exposures with out to many spots on iso 640
