Cryptic astronomy xword

Hi,

What's the history of cryptic astronomy crosswords here....have they been tried and fizzled? I did a search and only one thread appeared.

Is anyone keen on cryptic xwords?

Cheers

Hi Geoff, I don't mind the old cryptic xwords myself, they just take me so long to complete, I'll probably be still going next Chrstmas.

Cheers

How about some anagrams (v2.0):

First, rearrange the word or phrase to spell our
brighter stars' names.
Example: IN LLAMA- ALNILAM

APE CALL- _ _ _ _ (_) _ _
SOUP CAN- _ _ _ _ _ (_) _
ALSO RIP- _ (_) _ _ _ _ _
ACTORS- _ _ _ (_) _ _
COY PORN- _ _ _ _ _ _ (_)
A RANCHER- _ _ _ _ (_) _ _ _
TAN EARS- (_) _ _ _ _ _ _
BEE GEE LUST- (_) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
A BRAND ALE- _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (_)
OX PULL- _ (_) _ _ _ _
LUG USER- _ _ (_) _ _ _ _
A TRIAL- (_) _ _ _ _ _
HAT OIL- _ _ (_) _ _ _
TRIBAL LEX- _ (_) _ _ _ _ _ _ _
ZETA RALPH- _ _ _ _ _ (_) _ _ _

Solar system object:
DEAR OTIS, I ROASTED, DO EAT SIR, ROAD SITE, DORIS
ATE, RADIO SET, IRATE DOS, DO I STARE- _ _ _ (_) _ _ _ _

Now rearrange the circled letters to reveal the
mystery Messier object (Hint: 3 words).

Good luck...

I won't list the lot here and spoil the fun.

*edit*

I have deleted the white answer and PM'd the author.

G'Day Geoff,

I posted the one you found. I don't mind the occasional cryptic, but I must confess the style of some writers I sometimes struggle with!

I started doing a second one but didn't finish it. Other things just took precedence - you know how it is. Given the mediocre response to the first one I didn't push too hard on the second I suppose, but if you're keen I'll see what I can do over the Christmas break... I will be away without computers etc so I might scratch around on paper (what a novel idea!) and post one when I get back.

Al.
