Jupiter .... my first attempt

After more that a decade "thinking about it", I finally picked up some entry-level planetary gear and had a crack at Jupiter. I'm a bit surprised at how good the seeing was in the wee-hours a couple of weeks back, and how much fun this is!
Nothing to brag about, but have enjoyed learning the process.

120mm refractor
5x PowerMate (overall FL 4.2m)
ZWO 290mm guide camera
60s SharpCap RGB captures @10msec
... then lots of reading to learn AutoStakkert, WinJUPOS, and RegiStax.

Thanks for looking .... and any tips welcome.

Well I must say, if that's your first attempt you're off to a great start! Pretty good detail for a 120mm refractor, I can see why you'd be happy with that. My first attempt was never as good as that and you can be confident now to try the other planets. Well done.

I would certainly be bragging about that Jeff, for a first attempt, nice capture indeed.

Thanks Michael, Leon and Troy.
Appreciate the encouragement while I have my training wheels on.

Looking forward to Saturn and Mars getting a little higher in the sky.

Great result for a first effort Jeff, very nice indeed.

How are you focusing the on-screen image and what were the seeing conditions like when you recorded the avi?

Well done on getting to grips with the SW and processing process - that's quite an achievement in itself.

Cheers

Thanks Dennis.

I focussed on a faint star field using TheSkyX @Focus3.
Then switched over to SharpCap.

Having gone out to pack up around midnight on a Wed night, the seeing was the best I can recall for ages.
No twinkle-twinke little stars to be found! So I couldn't resist changing my gear over and giving planetary a go. But fronting up for work after 4 hours kip seem to be getting harder as I get older.

Thanks for those details Jeff.

By the way, I haven't come across the term "kip" since I left Blighty back I 1993.

Cheers
