All,

I'm a proud new father of a Canon 5D Mark II.

Picked it up half-an-hour ago.

Pictures tonight.

Regards,
Humayun

How much? Was it mega expensive? I think I can only stretch the budget out to the 50D.

Now you're making me restless, I rang about one today.

They wanted me to order on line and pay, despite not being able to guarantee delivery, not this little black duck...( I need to sell my old gear first ).

Looking forward to some sample pics.

Congrats H !!!
That's just awesome mate, I'm so excited for you !!

Can't wait to see the pics/movies and to try it out at the Pony Club.

BTW it's tradition for the father to hand out cigars.

Hi guys,

Thanks all for the funny comments.

David: I didn't ring RB, but, I did send him an email.

Michael: It was cheaper than anywhere else I've seen it, but, that was because I was quoted it before the doom and gloom that has taken place recently. I am pretty broke now.

Gary: This baby is not getting any dew on it. Well, it might, just not yet.

Andrew: OK, cigars on me.

Simon: LOL! I'm not going to modify it. Well, not until I buy another one.

Leon: Haha -- yeah, right!

Thanks, guys. I'm stoked!

I didn't get a chance to play around too much with it yesterday; I suspect I will be required to build a new PC to handle the file sizes!

Regards,
Humayun

Hi all,

Click here for the 1280x853 resolution images (all displayed on one page).

My apologies for the delay.

I didn't have proper first light until last night.

These shots were taken especially in low light to try and give the autofocus and high ISO performance a run for its money in trying conditions. I am very, very impressed. The aim was to present the images as they came out of the camera; as a result these images have had little to no processing done on them. The first image was shot with the 17-40mm f/4L, the next five were shot using the 200mm f/2.8L II USM, and the last two were shot using the 17-40mm f/4L.

Something to keep in mind is that except for the last, the rest of these images were taken handheld as I forgot to bring my quick release plate.

I even managed to make use of the HD video capabilities using the 17-40mm f/4L. I put my camera on my friend's tripod (took the last image) and then just turned the video feature on. Just as I did, a swan decided to paddle past, and then a second one. It was just wonderful!

1/250s f/8.0 at 40.0mm iso200
1/160s f/4.0 at 200.0mm iso800
1/160s f/2.8 at 200.0mm iso2000
1/100s f/2.8 at 200.0mm iso3200
1/160s f/2.8 at 200.0mm iso1000
1/160s f/2.8 at 200.0mm iso2500
1/20s f/4.0 at 17.0mm iso1250
20s f/11.0 at 40.0mm iso100

I appreciate any comments and critiques, and any questions.

Regards,
Humayun

Awesome first light images with the new camera Humayun. It was well worth the wait. LOL

Extremely low noise at high ISO settings which amazes me. I personally really like the last two images but also do like other as well.

Great start with the new camera. I'm jealous. I want one now.
