Antares region wide field.

Have not done any astrophotography for many months, and after seeing the fine images coming from the new moon festival down the road,I was inspired to get out and have a go last night.

Using a Canon 50D with 70-200 F2.8 on a Vixen GP mount, unguided,I was able to get a few three minute images-here is one.At 135 mm

Hopefully,I might be able to gather some shorter subs tonight and put together the data, and produce a better image.

Not bad Chris,

More data will definitely help, as might some selective increases in saturation.

Thanks David, was keen to test the tracking and see what the focus was like, been a long time since I set this gear up,the three minute tracking did not seem too bad.Maybe a large amount of 90 second subs.Might try a wider framing too.I noticed Troy had a very fine result at astrofest of this region using a full frame sensor camera and a 135 prime, the full frame gave much wider view.

You don't need shorter subs. Just more of them, and good focus and guiding/alignment. All of my subs were 4 mins, ISO 800, f/4. But alignment and guided were as good as I could get, and focus was tight.
