Repo NGC 2736 Pencil Neb in Bi-Colour with extra O3

I wasn't happy with my first attempt so I added 3 hours of O3 and reprocessed from scratch.

Still could with more data to tame the noise, but I think this one looks a little better.

Link to full size repo http://www.astrobin.com/91789/B/

Thanks Geoff

This my first Bi-Colour image. Ha>Red, O111>Blue and Green

Image taken with W.O FLT110 and G2-8300 Moravian CCD. Astronomik 12nm filters. Processed in Pixinsight.

Total image was 23 O111 and 26 Ha subs at 10min each.

Link to larger image http://www.astrobin.com/91789/ 2.6 meg

Image was quite noisy and required significant noise reduction. I now understand why long subs are required for narrowband images.

Any tips for future Narrowband processing gratefully appreciated.

Thanks Geoff

Good work for a first bi-colour, Geoff! A very neat object and some nice detail.

You have a reasonable amount of data but you'd probably get better results with longer subs, maybe 15 or 20 mins. The KAF-8300 has fairly high read noise and that will be significant on short subs with low signal. Did you see Ray/Shiraz's post on a simple method for determining sub length? It's worth trying: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=117010

Wrt processing tricks, are you carefully tweaking the rejection algorithm and parameters to maximise SNR? That's the first basic step to getting the best out of your data.

Cheers,
Rick.

Its a good effort Geoff, but geez the background is very high and colour casted.

For less noise, 12 off 20min subs would probably do better.

Thanks Fred, i'll do a repo on this one and see if I can remove the cast

Thanks Geoff

Great detail in that nice image, but it's begging to have the Ken Crawford routine using HDR toning (which is a video on his site). It really should extract/enhance all the detail you are missing.
