Beautiful moonlit night in SEQLD

Anyone else in the Ipswich area out with their telescope tonight? I know it's a relatively bright night with the moon but it's soooooo clear & the temp is perfect (but the mozzies aren't ). I've been doing double stars, Jupiter, Mars, swinging my way around Centaurus and Carina (with UHC filter), and some moon work too. I even bagged Centaurus A and am about to hunt down the Sombrero Galaxy (M104) above Mars. How much fun can you have on a Fri night

Sounds nice Alex. I'm down in cloudy Melbourne, but tonite I had 45 min of clear skies. Saw the moon for the first time in my life (thru a scope that is!) , thru my 12 inch dob. Really made a strong impression, so vivid and 3d. Mars was too low and just behind some foliage, so I could just make out the disc only. Glad to get my red dot finder working accurately though.

Well, it was a nice night until a thick bank of clouds came over about 11pm.

Yep!! I was having a lovely time until cloud + rain interrupted the fun. Simmo, the moon was good to look at :-) At the time, I was enjoying views of 'Rimae Gassendi' in the Moon's Gassendi crater ... the rilles really stood out at the terminator. Alex

I saw the moon yesterday after MANY totally cloudy days/nights. I put my dob outside and waited about 10 minutes. The clouds came back.
