Mars April 2nd

Hi Everyone,
After recent thoughts to jump on the planetary video bandwagon I bought myself an ASI130MM camera with LBGR filters a couple of weeks ago. That coincided with a week of cloud and lots of rain but I managed to give it a go on Mars on April 2nd.

I thought I'd share the pic. This was taken with a Takahashi TOA-130NS, and stacking the best 60% of ~5000 frames in each filter, using AS!2 for the stacking and registax6 for the wavelets and producing the colour image. This is with eyepiece projection as the Tak has 1000mm focal length which gives a small image even with the tele-extender.

The seeing was a bit dodgy but was amazed at the level of detail that appeared.

Syrtis Major was right on the meridian which was a big bonus. The fog in Hellas was a big surprise and very clear in the b filter. Also the cloud over Elysium and the tiny north polar cap.

It's been raining since but once the skies steady again its game on.

Cheers.

Well done Dave. Recently acquired one of these cameras for Ha solar imaging - simple and elegant I reckon.
