Best way to attach camera direct to EQ mount

For wide field photography with no telescope involved, how do people generally attach a camera to a dovetail? I have a standard 20cm dovetail but the camera doesn't feel too solid.

I attach tripod ball heads direct to the dovetail.. with a solid bolt through into the tripod head mine feel rock solid? I've drilled out some 3/8" holes through my dovetail bars but sometimes just use 1/4" bolts as well.

With telephoto lenses I'll generally attach the collar around the lens direct to the dovetail, no tripod head. Even more rock solid.

I found that having the metal bar up against the hard plastic of the camera body, didn't make for a firm connection at all. It doesn't take much for the camera to skid around on the dovetail at certain angles.
My solution was to blu tack a piece of soft plastic onto the bar so the camera sits firm and snug.
It's not very elegant, but who cares, so long as it works.

made my own bracket - It actually piggybacks my OTA but let's face it it doesn't take rocket science

I like that idea. There's a lot more to grip than just the outside edges of the dovetail.

Thanks!
