T-adapter, Canon extender and Err01

Hi, today I got a T-adapter for my Canon 30D so I could try using my 70mm scope for terrestrial photography. While trying it out, the thought occurred that I might be able to use my Canon 1.4 II extender. It all seemed fine until I pressed the shutter and got a "Communication error" between the 'lens' and the camera, and an instruction to "Clean the contacts".

Since the camera takes pictures on its own without any trouble, it's clearly the extender that's causing the problem. Anyone know how I can switch off its brain so it'll let me take pictures?

Thanks

Morton

Cover the contacts on the camera or 1.4x extender (camera side) with glad wrap. The camera 'expects' a lens to be present if you use the 1.4x extender.

I've heard of people using masking tape over the extender contacts as well.
