Cleaning sensor of DSLR

I have some annoying dust motes showing up in images with this camera. I know I can probably get by with flats but would like to remove the source of the problem anyway.
The Canon has a sensor clean routine but doesn't seem to do much. What about opening a Bulb exposure and having a few puff of air via a puffer bulb or even some canned air. Thoughts?

Peter, I'd beware of canned air unless you're sure it contains no propellant.

Just open it up with Bulb and see what you've got there...air puffer should be sufficient, worst case scenario, try some isoproyl alcohol on a clean cloth and you should be OK. It's the same solution (diluted with a little distilled water) that is often used for cleaning optics... refractors, eyepieces, corrector lenses...

A puffer bulb is very good at first than get a decent lens pen, just make even strokes firstly from side to side than up and down, works a treat, I have been doing it forever, and there is no damage, the filter in-front of the sensor it tougher than made out to be.

Stay well away from canned air if the can is not held exact right one can expel a very nasty frozen air.

You can buy treated sensor wipes on a stick that are designed for this task. I have used some APS-C ones in the past and they work great, just make sure to puff it first, and don't get it caught in the shutter curtain.
