Lodestar pixel size in PHD2

Confused - in PHD2 New Profile Wizard, if I set the guide camera as Sx Lodestar (ASCOM), it sets automatically the unbinned pixel size to 16.60 microns. If I tell it using the SX driver, it sets it to 8.3 microns - precisely half.

I let it run at 8.3 using the "OEM" SX driver last night and got a warning that the calibration had not moved enough steps in size and calibration may be unreliable. Didn't feel like fiddling again with it as I was wasting time so just went with MaxIM 6's guiding which is brilliant (not going back to PHD any time soon!!!).

But the question is, WHICH figure do I set for the pixel size? Both sizes were automatically generated, differing depending which driver I used. I had GREAT guiding in PHD2 previously (prior to setting it to arc sec on the request of Suavi lol), now it's telling me unreliable calibration.

So, WHICH SIZE should I use? By memory, the lodestar is 8.2x8.4. I used to use 8.6.

This is correct though it is often used binned x2.

OK, so which figure to use

I am so happy with MaxIM guiding (SO glad I went to MaxIM 6 recently) that it doesn't really worry me, but always like to have ducks in a row.

I seem to recall in PHD 1 having a figure of something like 1.3 or somesuch and it working SUPERBLY.

I use 8.3 if unbinned and 16.6 for x2.

Thanks Rick. Strange that I have in the Ascom driver set it for UNBINNED but PHD2 reads it automatically at 16.6

That’s why guiding graphs looked so nice and flat!

BTW, I also set pixel size in phd2 to 8.3.

Suavi - they still were nice and flat, not going above 0.5" despite PHD2 warning me of potentially unreliable calibration. I checked and indeed it had only now moved 3 steps in Dec compared to previous 8 for calibration.

last night, I again watched the guide star in MaxIM 6 at 400% zoom with crosshairs on and did not see it move in 3 hours. Must have been a hot pixel (and the SXP tracks so well it didn't notice )

I paid $500 USD for MaxIM 6...I may as well take advantage of it

Lewis - you know I am only teasing you

Glad to hear your mount works very well and that the weather is allowing you to do some imaging. I'm awaiting dry season as much as kids await Christmas...

MaxIM sounds interesting for sure.
