I have not paid for a hair cut now for over fifty years...my first wife was a hairdresser and after she left I cut my own...and for a while now I dont bother cutting it (or shaving☺)...so I wondered just how much others must spend on hair cuts and how much money I have saved in fifty years...and when I work out how much I have saved what I could buy with my saving☺.

I pay $20 (pensioner discount rate) in Morisset at the barber shop, but i only get it cut a few times a year (sort of seasonal type haircuts). What I don't understand is how they charge the same to nearly bald guys to run the clippers over their cue ball head.
I would never go into those expensive places at Westfield, support your old fashion local barber.
Go to my local hairdressers about every 6 weeks for an haircut and beard trim for $20, that's about as cheap as you can get these days. So $180, maybe $200 a year if you want to work it out from there Alex.
Probably spent $100 on haircuts over the last 30 years. Normally buzzcut myself, or if I've been good, the wife will do it. Alex, I like your "money saved on haircuts as a rationale for astro gear expenditure" model.
I think $10,000 would be a reasonable figure for the savings....mmm that is about what I have spent in the last 18 months..scopes $3.5k, mount $1.3k, cameras and lens intervalmeter etc $4k, lap top and desk top $3k and little bits and the "cube" $1k....yes $10k☺.
Now savings in razors???

Totally free for 30 years my Alice is a qualified hair dresser.
However my son who i might add has been offered free hair cuts for the last ten years has refused, and sits in this Just Cuts place and gets a beer and pays 45 bucks, talk about stupid.
And the hair cut looks no different tan any other.
Totally DIY with clippers no.2 (see avitar) for 25 years now.
Even use the same clippers to shave with.
About 3rd set of clippers just change blades every couple of years.
Must of saved $1000s

I got sick of the cost some years ago and the wifey gave me some good clippers for Xmas that year.......the differential cost between a hairdresser and the clippers is all to my advantage.
I shave my own as best I can, If you shave your head you not only save money on haircuts to spend on astro gear. You also save on combs, brushes, hair spray, shampoo, conditioner...So even more gear justification. then theres wear and tear on household cleaning and clogged vacuum cleaners, you're really saving a fortune when you think about it.
