The camera and the review are both excellent. Anyone carrying them in Australia yet ? Looks to be the perfect next step from a DSLR.
Any indication of an Australian price ?

Great review and great cameras. My ZWO120MM has exceeded my expectations in relation to lunar work. Love it!

I might get the colour version pour planetary.

I've ordered a ZWO120MC direct from ZWoptical, time to get serious with this bloody obsession. I hope there aren't too many clouds packed in the box.
Price was $298 US + $30 US postage and they've got PayPal setup. Between it's sensitivity and guiding capability it's worth the step up and I'll be very interested in modding a cooling system to it.

I'll let you know when the clouds arrive.

Well, my camera arrived yesterday, 6 days to deliver but ! There was no one at home to sign for it so it went back to the couriers and I won't see it till Monday now.
I have to say excellent service. I am busy with stepsons 21st all this weekend anyway and weather is not helping with clouds etc so I can be patient. I hope ...
Hopefully it not being delivered will fool the accompanying clouds and they will go off in search of the missing hardware and get lost

Ok, got it going last night but it was hosing down ( poor fireworks folks !! ) so had it on my 80mm Achro looking across the valley to a building ( church ) about 2-3 km distant. Through the rain of course. And the not so perfect glass of the dining room window.
I could make out people inside through windows .... with enough resolution to make out door jambs and sills.
Can't wait for clear skies !!

hi
Anyone thought of attaching this to the polar scope for polar alignment? ive been wanting to try this as its sensitivity should be ample to easily show up the asterism.
might need an 8mm eyepiece to attach it to the polar scope.

I'll let you know if the clouds that came with it ever disappear
Who knew you could fit some many in such a small cardboard box.

BTW: it came declared as a webcam with an appropriate lower value. (Although it would have been within NZ import cost restrictions anyway )

Thanks for the review hugh it was very good and I reckon I might get one. Am interested to know what scope you used for the saturn shot, do you reckon the camera would work well with my 8 inch f6 newt?

Also any one know if the software works on a Mac?

cheers
Jo

Don't know if it works on Mac but FireCapture that comes with the ZWO has a heap of controls including Autoguiding which I have yet to try.
I'm impressed with my very limited play with the camera so far. Sky looks better for this evening. Already have plans to add peltier cooling and heatsink to improve noise even further.

Scope used

Hi Jo, the scope I used was a Meade 14 inch LX200 and the camera should work ok with your 8 inch Newtonian, just use a 2x or 3x barlow with it.

I have one and love it (120mc) bought it off their website.
My only issue with it is you really need to make sure you use a blower and get all the dust specks off it.
A few saturn images over different nights and experimenting using my 127 ed with the 120 mc in poor conditions.

Unfortunate;y it doesnt work on a mac but I do use bootcamp and use the windoze side with firecapture.

Would have being cool if there were a qhy 5 comparison frame vs frame, have seen zwo around for a bit now and they look good. Might grab one later for a guide cam as these look to fit the bill better then Orion and are much cheaper then qhy. Has anyone guided with one yet here that can share how it went phd wise?
