Sharpless 54 / LBN72 and NGC6604

I wanted something a little different this time rather than shooting the same old stuff. Something I haven't taken before but something nice. Chewing over the milky way rising in the east, this Serpens star cloud looked like it might be possible, but having never imaged it before I didn't know what to expect. The single sub looked meh but maybe with 900 of them... To my surprise the field is quite nice. Not sure why it doesn't get imaged more often? Looks as good as Eta Carina and friends to me.

So here it is, Sharpless 54 / LBN72 and little cluster NGC6604.
GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, Full spectrum Canon 1100D, 965 x 30 seconds or about 8 hours unguided (I'm having guiding problems) Baader Semi-apo filter, HEQ5 Pro.

An interesting and obscure target Kevin. As Mike says, there are a number of regions scattered throughout the Milky Way like this that just aren't "interesting" enough

I'll have to find some more. The above isn't bright so they may be hiding....

Looks really good Kevin, reminds me a bit of the M16 Eagle.
What issues are you having guiding?

Cheers
Bill

Hi Bill, I'm getting a slow drift so I assume I'm getting differential flexure somewhere in the system.

Refreshing. The generally soft outlines and lack of strong shock fronts or clear cavities suggests that this is a relatively young star-forming region.

Nice one Kevin. Its a rare one as its stuck in between the usual suspects so just doesn't get picked up but I ended up on this as well when I was framing up M16 in DSO Browser with the FSQ and saw this in the FOV so I reframed and am plodding away getting data at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do once you get the guiding sorted given what you achieved here

Thanks M&T. It is quite a smooth region. Not much in the way of bok globules.

I might have to end up going to an OAG if I can't resolve this David. One night was good, the next it wasn't. I'm not sure what's flexing. Perhaps the whole damn thing. It's just a thin metal tube for the OTA.
