Great sketch Alex. I remember seeing the original up there and your one of the Helix too. It's an amazing skill to be able to sketch like that at the eyepiece with only a dim red light to work by. Thanks for the views through your excellent scope as well (once I finally got my imaging sequence going).

Nice pics and a cool timelapse too Edison. I remember you taking it as I was set up next to Alex

Thanks Rick, the Canon 600D is great for this sort of photography, a very diverse camera, also good at taking Micrographs with it (Attached to reasonable Microscope for imaging).
Still processing the Astro shots I took with it.
I will post one or two images soon.

Ditto re your good use of the daytime hours, Rod. Great photos of the birds. I do the nature / photography walks as well. And I also do the Great Meat Pie Hunt.

Last year the lady running the Duckadang Kitchen mentioned the quality of the meat pies at Blackbutt Wood-Fired Bakery. Made the drive up this year to check it out. (about 40 k away).

Well it was an experience just walking through the door to be confronted by such an array of pies, pastries and treats to choose from. My first though was that chef must have trained in Paris.

I had the Chunky Steak and a small Apple Pie. YUM YUM YUM. Never had better anywhere.

Thanks Michael,
I will have to remember to check out the pie shop at Blackbutt next time I go up that way. I always love a good pie

Hi everyone,

We got a call from the Courier Mail today and they told us that the photos submitted for the Erwin van der Velden Astrophotography Competition will be published in tomorrows Courier Mail.

We have no idea how many or which photos are to be printed, or even how large is the article will be, all we can say is that all the photos that were provided to us have been submitted.

We also sent the "Best of the Fest" images as well in case they were interested.

Cheers

G'day.

There was talk that the dates for QLD Astrofest 2017 had been changed from those advertised on this years Registration Booklet. After checking with a committee member, I was advised as per below, that the matter was discussed but the dates were left as already planned / advertised.

There had been the possibility that the dates for 2017 could change because they coincided with the solar eclipse visible from the US, but after consideration, it was decided to leave them be. So it is as on this year's booklet cover, from Friday 18th to Sunday 27th August 2017./
