Guide Camera Orientation

Hi All,
A really really daft question....

I have a ZWO AS120MC-S being used as a guide camera...

Does it matter what orientation the ccd chip is placed when connecting it to a guide scope?

Hopefully a very simple answer for a simple brain like mine!

Paul

If you using PHD2 ( which I use ) the answer is no
But if you rotate it more than 1 degree between sessions then you will have to re calibrate if you run auto calibration
I usually line up my USB socket on the camera to the top, in line with my guide scope adjust knob ( this orientation works best for my USB cable ) however I never take my camera out of the guide scope so it’s stays in the same orientation all the time )
I use a ZWO ASI 120MM- S and an Orion 50mm mini guide scope with helical focuser
Cheers

I don't think it matters when using PHD2 for guiding, but I always set my guide camera with the widest part of the chip aligned with the RA axis.

This way when you use your hand controller arrow keys to move the scope , Left/Right (or East/West) movement is RA movement. The stars then follow a straight line on the PHD screen from Left to Right.

Same same.

With PHD2 (The only one I use so I cant comment on any other program) it works out the orientation for itself during the calibration routine so in essence it does not matter, but it is easier to picture what it is doing if you line it up so that RA/DEC line up with the two axis of the camera, and if you move the camera (Or rotate the guide scope, or the main imaging scope if you use an OAG) you need to re-calibrate.
