What is the point of simulator in PHD2

as the heading states just wondering what it is used for my thoughts are so you can get a feel on how the software works and functions .
I downloaded PHD2 and set up the simulator but all I get is stars jumping around all over the place you can't see how the calibration works or the guiding nor can you play with the functions I am most likely doing something wrong but have been playing with it for the last hour and not getting anything out of it except frustration maybe stick with PHD 1
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers Pete

The only thing I have ever used it for was to play around on the desktop in getting PHD2 to interact with the rest of the software I use.

I quickly found it asier to just get out and set up to see how it works with real data. I would not let it frustrate you as a desktop study, IMO you are better off setting it up and giving it a run with some real data. I never used PHD1 so I can't compare to that for ease of setup and use.
