When I was a school student, I received a one-page letter from C. L. Stong
that he had typed on what must have been a well-used rickety-old typewriter.
The letter was filled with wit and humour.
The advertisement incorrectly cites his names as "Strong".
Stong's predecessor had been Albert Ingalls and he had authored the
three volume series “Amateur Telescope Making' in the 1940's.
Those books included a section by John
Strong of Caltech
on aluminizing mirrors.
I was sad the day I read that C. L. Stong passed away in 1977.
An electrical engineer, he had been a barnstorming pilot back in the 1920's.
His 1960 book which was a compendium of articles, including building
your own atom smasher and an electronic "star twinkle suppressor"
to get better planetary images :-
