Lobster Nebula with new ASI071mc

I imaged this one recently with the ASI533mc and was keen to give it a go using my new larger chipped ASI071mc on the espirit 100ed with unreduced flatenner.

I should have thought my orientation through a bit more and turned the camera 90 degrees as that's where the nebulosity is heading... but my the time that dawned on me I'd already committed too many subs, and with this object already low in the western sky this year I have carried on regardless

two separate early evening runs for this. One at 150s and 150gain... lots of noise so last night 180s and Unity (90) gain. Could push it a but more in post as a result.

might get another hour or so on this tonight...will see.

comments, critique, suggestions welcome

That's the go Robert.

By changing the settings and seeing what results is the best way to get around new equipment.

A nice well done lobster!

thanks peter and fernando. Looks like weather is pretty well a wash out here in Brisbane the next 10days at least so think that may be it for this year on this one.

Lovely image with good detail, Robert. You've inspired me try this target on my ASI071MC too, some time. What image capture software do you use, and what temperature was applied for the subs? I use -19 C.

Cheers,
Richard

hi Richard, i use Astrophotography Tool (APT) which is cheap and relatively easy to learn. For subs I'm only doing -5deg. Chosen as the dark noise for this camera doesnt get any better really going lower and because from Brisbane it's a temp I can reliably reach year round... -19 would be a stretch here! Good luck!
