Carina narrow band

Hi all,

Carina Nebula now with OIII and SII components added to Ha from before. Not as garish as my last attempt at the Hubble palette on the Tarantula Nebula but still not quite there I think.

Good one Kevin

It has been interesting watch this one develop.
I am just about ready to move into narrow band so you are leading the way!

Thanks all for the encouragement. Everything went really well with that one acquiring subs and in processing. It's funny though how sometimes things don't go so well.

I set up last night under a cloudless sky, smug in the knowledge that the bright moon and the neighbour's outside lights were no match for my narrow band filters. I did a drift align and got the best polar alignment I have ever managed. I slewed to my target and did a plate solve with Astrotortilla to make sure I was well centered and it wouldn't solve. A quick 60s capture and I couldn't see the nebula I was aiming for. Puzzled, I slewed to A-Crux, could see it only slightly off centre in the frame but that wouldn't plate solve either. Slewed to the moon and there it was filling the frame. Fiddled around for a while to configure SGPro to plate solve and it failed too. Assuming there was some software communication problem I switched everything off, rebooted, re-attached everything and still no luck. After trying several more targets without luck it suddenly occurred to me that using the luminance filter for all these attempts might not be the best idea with so much light pollution! Change to Ha filter and immediate plate solve with target well centred.

I then set up SGPro to capture a couple of hours of narrow band, managed only one Ha sub and then clouds came from nowhere and completely covered the sky.

Every failure is a lesson learned!
