Gold fish nebula?

This is actually the Gabriela Mistral Nebula in Carina, but with my un modded DSLR looks like a gold fish to me, Gem cluster in the corner. The first totally cloud free night in 6 months and no dew yay.

15 X 120sec subs canon 1100d 10"f4.8 newt, guided on HEQ5 pro.

Thats a great capture Rick.
And your are lucky that after such a spell things did not play up...as has been my sad experience.
And I love the stars in the cluster...and the spikes...

Excellent capture indeed Rick, but I'm not sure if i can see a Goldfish.

Thanks guys, it's been a real drought between totally clear nights, lots of clearish moments but always a few rouge clouds to spoil things, they really stuff up guiding.
Leon the darker red part to the left is the fan tail with the head to the right. In the correctly named nebula the right hand edge apparently represents the face silhouette of the 19th century poet Gabriela Minstral.

Ahh, yes on closer study it certainly has some resemblance to a Gold Fish of sorts.

Plenty of dew Here! Clear nights have been rare alright. You've made the most of it with that pic.

Yes, very nice.
I find it interesting that when I imaged that area a long while ago with slightly less overall integration time, and an 8" scope, the area around the Gem cluster showed a lot of red, whereas your image shows almost none, and yet your red Gem is redder than mine was; puzzling.
Here is a crop of the Gem for comparison.

Thanks Kevin, yes the dew has been pretty bad but Monday night was dry until 1.30am. My problem is that with so few clear nights I can't spend a lot of time on one object, I get the urge to try some different targets so not a lot of integration time on each object.

Thanks Raymo, the red is there, here's another pic, stretched a bit more and a few more subs added. It's probably my quick processing, I wanted to keep the background dark and contrasty.

I can see a red "tail" easily in the last image. Well whatever I see as red.

That's a great shot. I know what you mean about trying different targets. There are so many great objects, one thing this hobby is slowly teaching me is patience. There's so much I want to see but to see it better I need to spend more time on each target!

Thanks Kevin, on this occasion I should have stuck with this one target, it was definitely improving with more subs, guiding was great and the seeing was clear and steady.
