Found Solar Polar Alignment app android
Hi guys,
Just thought I would share an app I found for solar alignment at anytime during the day and so easy. Its called Solar Polar Alignment but not sure if there is an apple app. No need for compass at all you just need a vertical shadow of some sort. Eg 12 inch tube, just something to cast a straight shadow.
Download from google store and start app.
It will find your lat and long after a few mins automatically
On the display, there will be long vertical lines as well as smaller vertical lines in the centre of display and one of them will have a round tip.
The small vertical lines update every 2 mins and move slightly.
Linenup the small centre line with the round top with your shadow and ensure it is pointing to the sun.
The large lines align to north south solar noon.
The top and bottom of your tablet/phone will be 90 degrees to true north south so you can put down a piece of wood and lean your tripod legs against them to align. No need for compass.
Give it a go and such a simple app.
