PRICE REDUCTION - Anssen Alhena Mount - Very large 65kg capacity

Anyone interested in this mount? See link (not my advertisement) https://astromart.com/classifieds/as...0-lbs-capacity

If there is some interest I will assemble and take photos of the actual mount I have on the weekend.

I also have an FS2 hand controller that was used with it https://www.astroshop.eu/controls-wi...to-30v/p,20305

The mount was set up in an observatory for a few years (over a decade ago) then was packed away and not used. This is a very heavy mount and has a payload capacity of 65kg. As money is tight and I don't have an observatory for it anymore I would consider selling so it goes to a good home.

Hi, at this stage just checking if there is any interest before the weekend. I'll need to find the receipts, it was a while ago but I think it cost me around $9K new. I am thinking around $3,500 for the mount and pier with legs is a fair price. I live between Canberra and Sydney if you want to check it out. Not sure how I'd ship but guess I could organise something, it's pretty heavy.

Hello Chris
Lovely mount (sounds like I'm referring to a horse)
Thought I'd just show a general interest.
I've been considering a moderately serious Observatory project for a while, purchasing bitwise, or in cooperation with others (group project).
Would you know the weight of the mount?
Is it GOTO ready, to run from say a PC?
Regards, Gary

Hi Chris, I may be interested in the mount. Would you know roughly the weight of the tripod/legs and the mount head? Will you be uploading any pictures of it soon? Cheers, TonyJ

I've had work and family commitments and it was my son’s birthday yesterday, so I’ve been finishing off some chocolate cake whist putting the mount together as promised. Sorry for the delay! As previously mentioned this hardware has been packed away for over a decade.

I found the original Anssen Technologies web page (click the Alhena link) that goes into a lot of detail here: https://web.archive.org/web/20041126...et.au/~anssen/

I've taken photos with and without the worm wheel and motor covers. The RA and Dec wheels are larger than you'd find on almost any mount. I have the digital encoders and you can see from the photos there are multiple ways to connect to additional electronics. The encoders attach internally and there are covers that finish them off nicely.

The mount head alone weights 35Kg , this is not an easily portable mount! There are 4 counterweights (2x8Kg and 2x6Kg) and the pier with legs, and a printed instruction manual. I fired up the FS2 today and it still works fine and I slued the RA and Dec around with it, no problems.

$3500 for the the lot except the FS2 or $4000 with. The FS2 is already set up to work with this mount, and will also work with the digital encoders although I never got around to getting cables for those. Absolute bargain as the FS2 was originally $2,300. Not sure how much freight will cost, lets talk. If your fairly close I'd be happy to drop off for petrol money :-)

Yes Gary, with the FS2 it is GOTO ready (once polar aligned) and can be connected to a PC via a serial connection. See the manual here: http://www.astro-electronic.de/anleit_e.pdf

I've had a few enquiries but nothing definite yet so I've reduced the price to motivate - now $3,000 for the mount head, encoders, counterweights, pier and legs. An additional $500 for the FS2 that will make it GoTo etc. The only thing I don't have are cables that connect the encoders to the FS2 but they should be pretty easy to obtain or get made (they are kinda like Ethernet cables, check chapter 6.3 of the FS2 manual). The Alhena has a larger payload capacity than an EQ8-R! Own a beautiful example of Australian engineering. For me the mount was overkill as I only had a 12" f6.3 newtonian on it back in the day. If not sold at this price I will not reduce further as I believe it's already an absolute bargain.

Any rough idea on what freight to Perth might end up costing?
