USB to Serial port adapter?

One that actually works on a Skywatcher Synscan handset with Stellarium.
Prolific chipset? I have bought two, neither work. One I suspect is a prolific clone, the other has a winchiphead driver. Looking to buy something that works, without costing an arm and a leg. Given that I bought popcorn, a drink and a choc-top at the cinema the other night.......

Thanks for that, they're in my local Autobarn, going there today for something else. If it doesn't work it wont be too hard to return it. Maybe third time lucky. :-)

This is a reliable one

FWIW this is also recommended by Astro-Physics, who are big on quality.

I use an Aten UC-232A for connection to my Az-Eq6. I also use the same adapter to connect to PABX's and for console access top routers without issue.

The Aten UC-232A costs around $35 online.

I've had no problems with the Aten from WinXP through to Win10.

I bought one from Jaycar, hooked it up tonight. Got a reticle display which was a first and moved the scope twice before it disappeared on me. I even tried an ASCOM setup with StellariumScope. I'm over it. I'll stick to the handset. Thanks for all the advice.

I thought maybe it would work using ASCOM drivers and StellariumScope. It listens on the tcip ports but when I select the connect box a window appears with no data showing, it then vanishes and I get an error message that the scope is parked. I cant uncheck the scope parked as I don't see an option to do it. Not sure if I should be in PC-Direct mode either. I've got Carte du Ceil, I might have a go at that tonight. I've spent enough money on this already.

Ive had driver problems with windows 10. PC sees the driver but it doesn't connect.

With mine putting an older win 7/xp driver version on fixed it. Bang ! Connects to stellarium etc. Just got to remember where the article was about this. Or - justsearch "windows 10 driver usb serial problem" and you'll get swamped !

Also check the prolifoc website

The Keyspan Serial / USB adaptor works reliably each and every time, irrespective of what it's plugged into. I haven't tried it with windows 10.

Cheers

The Keyspan USA-19HS has drivers available for all Windows operating
systems including Windows 10.

The latest drivers can be downloaded from here -
http://www.tripplite.com/support/dow.../1/mid/USA19HS

A good USB Serial adapter is a combination of good hardware and a
good driver.

Not all of them are born equal.

Having received feedback from a very large number of customers who
had tried a large number of different makes and models of adapters,
the Keyspan ones always came out on top. So, as a service, we stock
and recommend them ourselves. This has, no doubt, saved our
own customers a lot of time.

We also use them ourselves on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux machines.

Best Regards
