First light with SW 102 f5

I say its first light but really it's the first time I've successfully captured a decent image with this scope. I haven't totally ironed out at the nuances yet and cloud restricted the time.

Looks pretty, but is in desperate need of more time. You don't say what ISO
or how long the subs were. You need to find out at what ISO your 5D becomes
invariant and use that; almost certainly it will be be somewhere between
800 and 1600.

How exciting! And very pretty. My new 2nd hand is also a 102 f/4.9 like yours. I'll do binoviewer visual with it as soon as weather and gear are aligned in my favor.

I believe, what raymo suggests is good advice. This article explains why and lists Canon Nikon Sony cams with their respective ISO settings http://dslr-astrophotography.com/iso...rophotography/

Like raymo, I'd also appreciate adding the all tech specs to a DSO photo

Sorry I forgot to add those details. Subs are 25sec @ ISO 1600. The 5d invariance is @800. I used 1600 on this particular one because I didn't want to stray too far from what I knew worked with my f10. Baby steps so I know what the cause and effect is of each change is.

Yes it needs more time but clouds disagreed

Some time ago I changed to a 600D from my old 1100D, because of its
articulated screen[makes everything so much easier], but my 1100D was
invariant at 1600 and the 600D is only 800, so in a way I went backwards.

I stepped up to the 5d because all round it was a better camera than the 350d but being full frame, vignetting is a huge issue. Every silver lining has a cloud.
