Can someone help me identify this

I gave my digital camera it's first run the other weekend and captured this image but in my enthusiasm I forgot to take a note of what it was.

I've done a bit of searching but to no avail.

Is anyone able to help me identify it?

many thanks in advance.

Hi Niko, It is the Tarantula Nebula in the LMC. No doubt about it. You may have seen it elsewhere but coloured red. The blue is one of the outcomes of using an unmodded DSLR. The DSLR is very sensitive to OIII and shows off the blue but not the Ha red.
Still it is quite a nice image and should be easier than the film days. Bet you are enjoying the digital.

Well done.

thanks guys.

Yeah Doug - the digital's great - no waiting for results! Am going down the DSLR Focus path and trying to get my head around autoguiding - what I need etc but getting a headache from all the possible combinations!!!

Think I'll have a whole box of bits and pieces by the time of the next Snake Valley - better buy a roll of tape to hold it all together!

cheers

Another one who has turned to the dark side, there is no going back now, not bad for a first attempt Niko.
