Anyone able to get the Astofest bintel coupon code to work? I'm not having any luck and I'm still waiting for them to reply to my email.

Hi everyone,

We have realised that we haven't been promoting the Erwin van der Velden Memorial Photo Competition very well. Many people knew Erwin, either when he was a member of the Brisbane Astronomical Society and the Southern Astronomical Society, while he worked at York Optical in Brisbane, or by his fabulous images, but we also realise that many do not. There is a blurb about him and a link to a website devoted to him here http://qldastrofest.org.au/index.php...petition-rules.

The Astrofest is fast approaching and if you haven't gotten your images you wish to enter to the Photo Competition to the club representatives on the Astrofest committee, or to the registrar, you will need top act soon as we will be in the throes of setting up camp from mid next week.

With this in mind, and as we want to have the images up when the camp starts on Friday, please send a PM to here, and we will give you an email address you can send digital images for a multimedia display. If we can have the electronic versions this weekend, we can relax the rule to have the physical photo prior to camp.

Bear in mind that our display device is not likely calibrated to the specifications you have at home, therefore your image may not look quite how you intended. This is one reason we have not used this method to display competition photos in the past, however we feel we man need to drag ourselves into the late 20th Century.

Hope to hear from you soon.

OK, great so we don't have to print them even better as most printing is now an ink jet and not on photo paper

Personally I prefer to have the images on paper as they will be how you want them to look, but you can't have everything... I mean... Where would you put it?

I hear you about the difficulty of having a photo quality printer. Ours is not supported under W10, and having a difficult time finding another that prints CMYK rather than RGB.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick word about our Major Sponsors. We have been lucky over the years to have had the great support for people such as Bintel and SkyWatcher. This year is no different, Bintel is an authorised distributor of ZWO and has donated a great prize in our raffle. Likewise Will from SkyWatcher is supporting us with a bunch of great products. Simulation Curriculum, makers of Starry Night and Sky Safari, have decided to come on board as Major Sponsor this year as well. Finally, ExtraVision has given us a number of prizes. On the downside, our raffle is going to take as long as it does every year, but on the plus, there are lots of great prizes and we will be drawing the prizes at lunch so we don't lose the night, should it be clear.

The raffle is open to all registrants, organising Club members, their families and friends. It is an important part of our running of the Astrofest, allowing us to buy and update equipment, and to defray as much from the fees as we can. We can't sell the tickets online, but if you are a registrant and wish to buy tickets for your friends and family, contact the Registrar at registrar(at)qldastrofest.org.au. Of course, tickets will be on sale at the Queensland Astrofest up to the drawing on Saturday 11th August.Have a look at all our sponsors contributions on our website.

If you use social media, I would like to ask that you share our Major Sponsors' websites and social media pages so they can get as much exposure as possible. Their support is vital for the Queensland Astrofest, and The Queensland Astrofest would like to return that support.

Cheers for now.

Everyone better bring a fan to blow those cold fronts further south.
First half of next week isn't looking ideal currently

O ye, of little faith. More wine, no need for fans.

All you need is a movie projector. I reckon if we put David's Taj Mahal on its side we can set up a drive in.

Hi fellow Astro-Festers,

We're working on the digital presentation tonight, then it gets pretty busy for us as the pointy end of the Astrofest draws near. If you have any images that you want in the photo competition - please PM us now so we can put them into the competition.

Cheers
Queensland Astrofest Committee
