Supernova SN 2016cok (in M66)

Hi All,

Believe I detected SN 2016cok (in M66) announced the other day at about 11hrs UT (about 9pm local time) on 30th May 2016, from home (nr Canowindra, NSW) under a Mags 21.78/ sq arc sec sky measured with an SQM-L meter, using my 46cm f/4.9 at x247.

Threshold detection several times over the course of about five minutes as a dim, occasional "flash" at the correct spot. Appears fainter, by at least a few 10ths of a magnitude than the magnitude 15.4 (+/- 0.4 mags) star, GSC 861:1020. This star is located about 2.1 arc mins in PA 210 from centre of M66 and is superimposed on the halo.

I'd guesstimate the current magnitude of the supernova as being in the magnitude +15.7 to +16.0 range.

Best,

Les D.
