Captured NGC2070 Tarantula Nebula last night at my weekender (dark site Bortle 3 )
Started just before midnight and finished subs around 2.30am , set capture plan for darks and went to bed
I was going to wait until November to capture this object as it would be higher earlier in the evening but it was a cool night so took advantage of the cooler temperature especially when using the DSLR
Seeing was a 7/10
8”f5 newt on an EQ6-R mount
Canon 600D with Baader coma corrector ( no filters )and home made Cooling Fan ( sensor temperature reading 19 deg C )
22 x 4 minute dithered guided subs
15 x darks
ISO 800
PHD2 guiding at 0.80 to 0.90 arc sec error ( using conventional Hysteresis)
Mount balanced east Heavy using 3 x 5.1 kg counterweights
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools
Nice Martin, I love this target. I’ve been capturing it too. I planned to add to it last night but there was some light high cloud and I didn’t want to go through the whole setup process when I didn’t think what I’d get would add much value especially as the ambient was around 18deg. There’s no clear nights for the foreseeable future so I might just process the 5 odd hours I’ve got and see what happens.
