Hey Guys,

As per the title whats a decent 2" mounted light pollution filter for a DSLR camera.

I will be using on a 10-inch SCT meade lx200, with powermates and a nikon d810.

And I would also like to know whats the best you can get?

Cheers.

Hi Roger,

I’m using an STC Duo Filter which is a dual narrow band filter. Once white balanced it is an absolute game changer. Not cheap at just over $500 landed but I think it’s worth every penny. Another IIS member, Chris V, has had his longer. You should see some of the images he produces using it, they’re stunning. I am imaging in bortle 8 Melbourne skies and I can do 5 min subs at ISO 400 through both an 8” f/4 Newt and a C9.25 SCT with sky brightness of well under 1% !

I use a clip in STC Astro-Multispectra from Cyclops Optics. very happy with its ability to kill light pollution. Seems many of these filters are available in multiple options (1.25", 2", canon/nikon clip ins). I haven't used any others to compare, but havent seen any complaints about this one. I only wanted one filter to help me get the most from my camera and this was the best i could find and nikon clipin is rare.
