Yet another 253

My final image from last weekend's dark sky trip up to the Flinders from Adelaide.

NGC 253 - about 7.5 hours luminance and 2 hours each of RGB. RC8 scope and ZWO ASI 1600MM-C camera.

Full res available on Astrobin here.

I'm exhausted after processing 3 images - I need a vacation!!

Paul

Thanks Colin. Yeah, it's a good little scope I think.

Hi Paul. Nice detail with a nice tight composition. At full res though there is some evidence of deconvolution I think. On the whole though this is a nice image of this well imaged target.

Very nice image. Lots of detail. The colour though is a bit off. A red bias there as there should be some bluish areas on the outer arms and the stars have a red ring.

Greg.

Thanks Greg and Paul. I'll try to tweak the colour now (on Astrobin), and then I might have a repro when I have more time with a bit less decon.

That's exquisite Paul. Both 253 and the background are beautifully done.

The latest version's colour looks good now.

Some imagers have shown the bluish outer rings as more bluish but I don't know if that is accurate or not. This galaxy has been portrayed in different colours over time. Its also called the silver dollar so what you make of that I don't know.

Greg.

Thanks Greg. I couldn't find a good way to balance the colour without manually manipulating it. It seems to defy all logic and is non-repeatable!
PCC was really blue. ColorCalibration looked just wrong. That final one is a bit of a hybrid.

Hi Ducky! How goes it?

I'm with Greg, the couple I have processed are much bluer, although I'm not sure what is right or wrong.

Anyway, who cares! It is another fantastic image by Duck Inc! Nice one, mate!

I'd say your image is close. Spiral galaxies like this typically have a dusty yellow core and then bluish outer arms. How blue though is a question mark.
Look at enough spiral galaxy images and they can vary a fair bit although the pattern is much the same with bluish outer arms and a yellow core some with a lot more dust than others. Sculptor seems very dusty. It must have a lot of rocky planets I imagine.

Greg.

Or perhaps it used to and the dust is what's left of them after the Vogons built a few hyperspace bypasses!
