FF for ED80

Hi all,

Now I know it's been done to death, but I was wondering if I could get an opionion on a sutiable field flattener for my f-6 ED80 and Canon 600D. I've had quite enough of cropping the outer 50% of my images!
A few I've come across so far are ...

Orion FF http://www.bintel.com.au/Astrophotog...oductview.aspx $149 Bintel

HOTECH SCA Field Flattener http://www.optcorp.com/ht-sca-fft58-...flattener.html $160 (on special) Optcorp

P-FLAT88 NEW 2" Field flattener for Megrez 88 - $179 Andrews

2" Field flattener Astro Tech https://www.astronomics.com/astro-te...rs_p17393.aspx $150 Astronomics

I'm leaning towards the Hutech, but only because it's on special. I also plan on upgrading my scope in the future, so being able to transfer to the new one will be a bonus.

Anyhoo let me know what you all think or any other options I should consider!

Chris

I use the Hutech on my ED80 (f6) and it works great.

I have a no-name branded version of the Orion FF sourced from the UK for approx $100. This FF is available under about 4 or 5 different brands.
It works but the corners of an 18mpix APS-c sized sensor still show some coma on an SV70ED f6 scope. It may not be as apparent on a lower resolution sensor, yet to try it with the 10mpix 40D.
This might be corrected with some tweaking of the spacing, not sure tho as I haven't tried.

Thanks for the comments.

Cracking image there, Nathan! Definitely looks good all the way to the edge.

Simon have you got any example pics taken with your set-up? And do you have a link to where you purchased your ff?

Chris,

Will see what I can do regarding an image.

I failed to mention that the approx. aussie $100 price(may have been $110 or something, can't remember) was including postage.
I bought it from FLO, however they are currently out of stock: http://www.firstlightoptics.com/redu...flattener.html
Keep in mind the price shown at the above link includes 19% VAT which is exempt for us. Making it approx $80 without postage.

I used an Orion Field Flattener bought from Bintel with a Canon 60d and an SW-ED80, haven't used any other to tell you which is best. Image taken here http://www.flickr.com/photos/7096042...in/photostream

This is a shot of the scope with the FF attached http://www.flickr.com/photos/7096042...in/photostream

HOTECH ROCKS! Fantastic bit of kit. I think Agena sells them cheaper - well, they did when I got mine anyway.

Sky-Watcher do a FF for the ED80. Exact same optics as Orion. (Same factory, different stickers.)

They also sell a FR for the ED80-120 range. These are also sold Orion badged. (Again, same factory.)
