Can you use a 60D as a colour webcam on the scope to image planets?

I notice that there is a 1:1 ratio for the 60D to take video, is this one way I can use the camera instead of purchasing another webcam for planet and lunar shots. would this work with registax?

Yes it does work, not as well as a DBK21 for instance, the larger chip is a bit of a pain, as is the compression, but it does indeed work, just not as well.

Hey Dave, check out my Canon 1000D shot of Saturn (of course, you have already looked at it before......right? ) taken using a 5 x powermate and Backyard EOS in Planetary mode with the 5x bonus feature switched on.....

Its possible, as I have shown....next time I will whack the 2.5x barlow in the train as well to really give it some scale.

Here is the link

Cheers

Chris

All DSLRs compress the video, unless you are capturing via the HDMI output on a newer camera. The 60D uses MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 compression.\It does however have a VGA crop mode, which gives effective 7x magnification @640x480 so that is a plus.
