Meade DSI III

Has the new Meade DSI III been released? I see Star Optics is advertising them for $1599

I have heard that they are available in America through Meade preferred dealers, dont know about Australia though. They are very pricey as well.

Cheers

OPT has both at $1299US. At this price I'd be curious to see how they compare to similarly priced CCD options.

I find it interesting that Meade have a new product on the market that isn't on their web site or product catalogue!

I was wondering about that as well Dave. I read on some other forums that Meade was also going release the latest Autostar and Envisage updates on their site as well.

Cheers

Crikeys, you could buy a DSLR for the same price! And use it as a normal camera as well

Also, you can now get 'Brand New' 350D with a tons of accesssories (Lens, Bag, Tripod etc) for $649.
The 400D 'new' is around $800-$900.

Choice sounds obvious.

I still have a lot to learn with the DSI II before I step up and then I am leaning towards the Starlight Express.

I read internationally that folks in America feel this camera judged by performance should be in the USD $800 price range.

I've been reading on some of the USA forums that Meade have released the new Autostar and Envisage software for download and use with earlier DSI models.

But from what I have been reading it has more bugs than a plague of locusts, It might pay to stay with the older versions until they sort it out.

Cheers

I came across this on cloudy night, must say I'm impressed by this shot for a DSI.

Yes, it is definitely not a generation 1 DSI anymore.
