My youngest was a bit nonplussed..."Dad, it's coldddddddd"

Most of the snow fell around Womboin, Googong and the hills around Hume and Queanbeyan.

I did have an ice-adventure on the road though - skidded at least 10 metres JUST stopping by the line!!!!!

I think we should all be happy about any precipitation in any form. The place is as dry a a mother-in-law's kiss. Down here it's drizzled all day, so the water gets a chance to soak in.

Our division of four seasons, each of three months, is an imported tradition. A climatologist who studied Sydney weather decided that the real division is
Summer - Dec to March
Autumn - April and May
Winter - June and July
Sprinter - Aug and Sept
Sprummer - Oct and Nov.

In that scheme we are in spring but still get some winter weather. Spummer is spring but with some summer weather.

I heard about this a scheme a few years ago. Since then I've kept note and now think that this division is more accurate than the imported scheme. I don't know over what area it is valid and perhaps Canberra is different.

There's 2 changes I think that scheme needs.
1. April - Sumtumn
2. May - Autumn

April - Sumtumn - Starting to get cool enough at night and early morning to be able to turn the fans off at night, but not yet cold enough to warrant the fans being shut down of a daytime. May get a pre-winter cold snap.
May - Autumn - finally cold enough of a daytime to no longer need the fans on at all. May get a pre-winter cold snap.

Here in the ACT, the seasons are distinct, so the amendment is not applicable here. QLD on the other hand is definitely Summer and Spummer. Never knew Autumn or winter in QLD (but then again, to a QLDer, 14° requires a jumper and long pants - here, that is T-Shirt and shorts). Didn't get above 10° here - currently 9.4° at 1656
