I Agree also..if its the F5 Refractor your referring to... has ASPHERIC LENS...reflector good also.
I had one and sold it, to get a superb 130mm Triplet..All I will say is ONE WILL BE SURPRISED ..going by the sample I got..even without Baader Fringe Killer...use Orthos and never look back.

I'd like to get a C6 refractor for cheap at some stage just to play around with it, changing components here and there, seeing how good I can make it, just for a bit of a fun as a minor project on the side.

Hi Mark ..if you get the usual good one, you'll have fun, thats for sure..occassional duds.

There not for purists, but for 600 ..whos complaining..and you can always sell it to the next person who wants to "taste" a big refractor..on sale for a short while...dont think they are remaking these.

PS: They have useable, but lousy focusers...use light yellow filter on Mars,Jupiter...and don't forget BINTEL actually check their scopes and don't send out duds!

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the pointers

Yes the focuser and finder definitely need switching, Bintel do a nice quality and affordable GSO 'Bintel stamped' dual speed for around 199 I believe, plus the bintel RACI finder is only around 169 last time I looked.

Re- bintel service: yes it doesn't surprise me that they check their scopes, the best service from anywhere I have experienced has come from Bintel. The staff selling the stuff actually understand their products deeply. I will preferably buy from Bintel from now on and theirs is really the only website I keep up to date on (occasionally myastroshop, but sirius optics are more expensive on pretty much *everything*, and astroanarchy strikes me as a pretty mediocre business. myastroshop an sirius seem to emphasise Meade - which I steer clear of like the plague. Much prefer Celestron and Skywatcher (both of Synta).

Cheers,
Mark

An interesting discussion. I would certainly have been very tempted by the 6"f8 at that price if I hadn't wanted a wider-field, shorter scope (hence my new (to me) 6"f5). For what it is this scope has excellent optics.

Sorry to hear Lewis' problems with his "dinosaur". I suspect this may have been more due to lack of QC in manufacturing than inherent problems with a good 6"f8 achro... Certainly the purple fringing in my 6"f5 is not as bad as he has described, and it is ameliorated somewhat by the eyepiece I use. (For example my old 9mm T1 Nagler shows a lot less purple around Sirius than (say) a cheaper 10" plossl.)

Ed Ting has some interesting comments on this very scope here: http://www.scopereviews.com/page1i.html#3

All the best folks,

Dean

Hi Dean,

Is it the Omni XLT 150 you are using?

Do you use any minus violet filters at all?

Cheers,
Mark

Also a great wide field view of stars with pinpoint stars.

Hi Mark,

Yes it is. I have a filter, but generally don't use it. I don't find it is necessary; and if you use it in the daytime it imparts a yellowish tint. The sky becomes more of an aqua colour than blue...

All the best,

Dean

It is probably the same as this telescope from TS rebranded to Bresser.
At TS it costs EUR 480 which is about $720.
